What Does it Take to Save a Life?

In an emergency there is no time for hesitation and no room for mistakes. Do you have what it takes? Firefighters come to the rescue when we need them most. You must be brave, confident, and calm under pressure. This career is not for the timid or weak at heart.

There are many careers and options within the fire service to serve the public. The Emergency and Firefighting Management Services Program will give you the opportunity to explore these options and find out where you fit in. This program uses simulated practical evolutions, including “live burn” exercises, to develop the skills you need to succeed. You will learn as much about yourself and your abilities as the career.

What You Will Do in the Class

You will learn the lifesaving skills of a firefighter. You will experience a live burn, climb ladders, pry open doors, cut apart vehicles, operate equipment, use a self-contained breathing apparatus, perform first aid, and learn how to search for victims in a smoke-filled environment You will learn about the turnout gear, tools, and safety equipment firefighters use. You will learn the life skills necessary to learn and work alongside some of the most talented and bravest people you will ever know.

Skills You Will Learn

Safety, fire suppression, search and rescue ladders, forcible entry, vehicle extrication, fire hose management, communications, hazardous materials  incident management, ropes and knots, CPR/First Aid/AED

Tools You Will Use

Firefighter turnout gear, hose and appliances, hand tools, self-contained breathing apparatus, fire extinguishers, rope, extrication equipment, radios, hazardous materials equipment
