Allied Health Sciences is a new offering in the JRTI healthcare technical programs. The AHS program will enable students to enhance their healthcare foundation by obtaining skills in the phlebotomy and electrocardiographic areas of diagnostic testing.
The Allied Health Sciences program uses a combination of academic and practical skill demonstration as well as clinical practice that will allow the student to gain the foundational knowledge that leads to entry-level employment and meets standards for national certification once successfully completed
What You Will Do in the Class
Learn and demonstrate the protocols for providing efficient, accurate diagnostic testing results in phlebotomy and electrocardiographic procedures.
Skills You Will Learn
- Venipuncture procedures using ETS, syringe, and winged (butterfly) blood collection methodologies
- Order of Draw and tube additives
- Dermal punctures procedures (fingersticks)
- Point of Care Testing (POCT) for glucose and hematocrit
- Perform a 12-lead EKG
- Interpret an EKG
