The Future is Being Built Today.

How do you turn metal and plastic into a moving useful machine? The world is full of problems waiting for a solution, and solutions waiting to be improved. Engineers are the ones who say, “I can find a better way to do that.”

Student working with FANUC robotic arm.

Students in the Applied Engineering program learn how to work as a team and develop solutions to complex problems. The class is presented with specific challenges, and then students develop solutions. They design, build and program a robot to perform tasks presented in the challenge. Students will collaborate while using the problem-solving skills needed to succeed in the challenging fields of computer science and engineering. They will also learn interpersonal and leadership skills to prepare them for project management.

What You Will Do in the Class

  • Construct and program VEX Robots to perform various tasks.
  • Complete a drone license certification course and learn to fly/program drones.
  • Compete in VEX and SkillsUSA competitions at the statewide level with the opportunity to compete in National and world competitions.
  • Write and test programs in real and virtual simulations.
  • Learn to operate an Industrial Robot.
  • Complete Engineering Design Challenges.
  • Learn 3D printing software and print products.

Skills You Will Learn

Robot design and fabrication, robotics programming, electronic systems manipulation, sensor operation, motor controls, basic applied physics, reverse engineering, CAD, 3D printing, C++, Python

Tools You Will Use

Windows Laptops, Microsoft Office, Coding Softwares Including C++ & Python, VEX Robotic kits, programmable controllers, Engineering Notebooks, DJI Drones, FANUC Industrial robots, Hands-on tools, and more!
